We specifically chose not to make Rivky’s Art Workshop™ a franchise opportunity because we wanted those who participated in our business opportunity and licensed their own center to have all of the support necessary to be themselves, with the freedom to create an art business that meets their personal goals and desires.
What’s truly remarkable is, because this business opportunity involves creating art, all participants who run their own center experience the benefits that art brings to all areas of life. One of the bonus benefits is the way it helps us reframe “problems” as “opportunities” and helps build problem solving skills.
Art is most beneficial when it is teaching us something. Not the art teacher or the art institute, but art itself. As an artist exercising your mind in different ways to produce your idea of artwork, you are learning through art. Art is the teacher and you are the student whether you have mastered art or not. Art has a way of reaching you whether you are listening or not.
Life gives us opportunity all the time in various forms. The opportunity to learn is around every corner. The opportunity to grow is always within reach. The opportunity to succeed manifests itself all the time in hidden ways as well as those more apparent. Many times, we see these opportunities as problems. But problems we face and overcome are always opportunities.
Art not only presents opportunities, or should I say problems, to us all the time, but it also reveals new ways in which to search for answers. When your left brain is taxed and out of solutions, that’s when you should turn to a blank canvas and begin a piece of work. It doesn’t matter what it is. Working on the next piece on your list, if you have a list, will do just fine.
Your mind will go through the problem solving exercise of filling that blank canvas with meaningful artwork. Which hues will work best? Where do you begin? How should it look when it is finished? Either way, make a plan beforehand or jump out of the airplane and make your parachute on the way down. It doesn’t matter. Your right brain has taken over and you are in the process of teaching yourself something.
You are going to explore options you didn’t know you had available to you. All of a sudden, you’ve found a new way of looking at old things. You’re becoming more aware that other possibilities exist and they just might work better than the same old solutions you’ve been using for years. Remember the old cliché, insanity is repeating the same process and expecting different results. Your right brain knows this one all too well.
There are people who never learn any technique to solving the problems they face. But, art by design can act as the means by which you learn. It advances your mind to that level where problems are no longer just problems, but opportunities. When you learn that, you are on your way to a more fulfilling life complete with growth, success and problem-solving opportunity.
